Formed by breaks fanatic Miles Tackett, Breakestra is a constantly morphing hip-hop orchestra based in Los Angeles. The group came together in 1997-1997 around Tackett's DJ gigs at a coffeehouse. A multi-instrumentalist whose work on cello has appeared on recordings by B.B. King, Macy Gray, and Black Eyed Peas, Tackett was a funk fan who got into hip-hop during the late '80s — courtesy of the Ultramagnetic classic Critical Beatdown — when he realized it was keeping the funk flame alive. A wish to play instrumental hip-hop in a band context brought the group together,

Onten estive em uma loja em sjcampos,a loja é de um Dj da antiga conhece as coisas e tal,varias vezes queria um disco mas ele enfiava a faca. ahe encontrei essa preciosidade e o cara me cobrou somete 25 cruzeiros, fiz o melhor negócio do ano, o disco é muito bom, e confesso não conhecia a Banda.
Então segue ahe a bio dos caras, em inglês memu né.

Sounding like a cross between Earth, Wind & Fire and the Crusaders, Karma was an interesting but underexposed 1970s soul/funk band that sometimes detoured into jazz-fusion and quiet storm music. Karma, formed in Los Angeles in 1974, wasn't a full-time project for its members, who included saxophonist Ernie Watts, trombonist George Bohanon, trumpeter Oscar Brashear, keyboardist Reggie Andrews, bassist Curtis Robertson, Jr. and drummer Josef Blocker. Many of Karma's members, who shared vocal duties, had been keeping busy on the L.A. studio scene and had solid credentials in both R&B and jazz. Karma recorded two albums for Horizion/A&M, 1976's Celebration and 1977's For Everybody, before calling it quits in 1977.

Biography

Donald Byrd was considered one of the finest hard bop trumpeters of the post-Clifford Brown era. He recorded prolifically as both a leader and sideman from the mid-'50s into the mid-'60s, most often for Blue Note, where he established a reputation as a solid stylist with a clean tone, clear articulation, and a knack for melodicism. Toward the end of the '60s, Byrd became fascinated with Miles Davis' move into fusion, and started recording his own forays into the field. In the early '70s, with the help of brothers Larry and Fonce Mizell, Byrd perfected a bright, breezy, commercially potent take on fusion that was distinct from Davis, incorporating tighter arrangements and more of a smooth soul influence. Opinions on this phase of Byrd's career diverge wildly — jazz purists utterly despised it, branding Byrd a sellout and the records a betrayal of talent, but enraptured jazz-funk fans regard it as some of the most ...

Biography

Joe Henderson is proof that jazz can sell without watering down the music; it just takes creative marketing. Although his sound and style were virtually unchanged from the mid-'60s, Joe Henderson's signing with Verve in 1992 was treated as a major news event by the label (even though he had already recorded many memorable sessions for other companies). His Verve recordings had easy-to-market themes (tributes to Billy Strayhorn, Miles Davis, and Antonio Carlos Jobim) and, as a result, he became a national celebrity and a constant poll winner while still sounding the same as when he was in obscurity in the 1970s.The general feeling is that it couldn't have happened to a more deserving jazz musician. After studying at Kentucky State College and Wayne State University, Joe Henderson played locally in Detroit before spending time in the military (1960-1962). He played briefly with Jack McDuff...

Confesso que não conhecia esse artista e até confundi com o Lonnie liston smith outro mestre do jazz funk.


Biography

Organist Lonnie Smith has often been confused with keyboardist/pianist Lonnie Liston Smith — and, in fact, more than a few retailers have wrongly assumed that they're one and the same. In the mid-'60s, the Hammond hero earned recognition for his membership in George Benson's classic quartet before going on to play with Lou Donaldson (contributing some memorable solos to the alto saxman's hit 1967 album Alligator Bogaloo) and recording enjoyable dates of his own for Blue Note. For all their accessibility and commercial appeal, funk-influenced Smith sessions like 1968's Think and 1970's Drives showed that he could be quite imaginative. Smith, who later became Dr. Lonnie Smith (for "no particular reason", the same reason he gives for why he always wears a turban), remained an inspired representative of soul-jazz and did some solid work with Donaldson in the '90s.

Estudou música desde criança em Ponta Grossa, Paraná, onde aprendeu canto, piano, violino e bandolim, além de teoria musical. Aos 13 anos já tocava e cantava profissionalmente. Trabalhou em casas noturnas como crooner, mas depois que foi para São Paulo passou a atuar principalmente como baterista.
Tocou no Sambalanço Trio, ao lado de César Camargo Mariano (piano) e Humberto Claiber (baixo), no Sambossa Trio e no Quarteto Novo, do qual fazia parte Hermeto Pascoal.
No fim dos anos 60 mudou-se para os Estados Unidos, onde trabalhou com diversos músicos e chegou a fazer parte da banda de Miles Davis entre 1970 e 72, junto com Chick Corea, Wayne Shorter e outros.
Criou um estilo na utilização de variados instrumentos de percussão e foi aclamado pela crítica especializada, ganhando várias vezes o título "Melhor Percussionista do Ano". Mais tarde formou bandas e atuou como solista sendo requisitado por artistas como Paul Simon, Quincy Jones e Herbie Hancock.
Apresenta-se freqüentemente com a cantora Flora Purim, sua mulher desde os anos 60 e desenvolve trabalhos ligados à world music, misturando música folclórica brasileira, marroquina e africana. Atua também como produtor e educador em diversos países.
Airto faz parte do grupo de músicos brasileiros mais conhecidos no exterior do que no Brasil.

Estive em sampa no Sesc domingo passado, hip-hop dj o maior campeonato de dj´s da america latina,tirando o bairrismo de fora, a melhor apresentação foi do Dj sleep,sem sombra de duvida ,agora os clitérios de avaliação eu não sei qual são.
Mas que o muleke devia pelo menos pegar entre os 5 primeiros isso tinha,o fato possitivo é que o Vale foi muito bem representado.
Quando sair o dvd do campeonato os organizadores vão ter muito o que explicar.

Biography

Initially regarded as one of hip-hop's most promising newcomers in the late '90s, Mos Def expanded his reach in the years to come, establishing himself as a serious actor and also making a bid to reshape the rap-rock genre. His artistic career began in the late '80s as a television actor, a profession he began directly out of high school. By the mid-'90s though, Mos Def turned to rap music as his new profession, frustrated by how little acting paid relative to rapping. Hi-Tek played a major role in the highly admired golden-age revivalist sound affiliated with the Rawkus Records collective, crafting many of the label's initial breakthrough releases. While Hi-Tek's production style owes a debt to New York's finest beat-makers from the early '90s — DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Large Professor — the producer actually arose from Cincinnati's low-key hip-hop scene rather than the streets of Brooklyn. Local mentors such as Ravi T, J-Fresh, and Sen Sai showed the aspiring youth how to craft beats, and by 1992 he had crossed paths with Mood, one of the Midwest city's premier hip-hop groups. Hi-Tek collaborated on the song "Hustle on the Side" and helped the group score a record deal. Years later, the producer befriended Talib Kweli, who was in town working with Mood. As the embodiment of '90s gangsta rap, Snoop Dogg blurred the lines between reality and fiction. Introduced to the world through Dr. Dre's The Chronic, Snoop quickly became the most famous star in rap, partially because of his drawled, laconic rhyming and partially because the violence that his lyrics implied seemed real, especially after he was arrested on charges of being a murder accomplice. The arrest certainly strengthened his myth, and it helped his debut album, 1993's Doggystyle, become the first debut album to enter the charts at number one, but in the long run, it hurt his career. Snoop had to fight charges throughout 1994 and 1995, and while he was eventually cleared, it hurt his momentum. Biography

At the time of its 1989 release, De La Soul's debut album, 3 Feet High and Rising, was hailed as the future of hip-hop. With its colorful, neo-psychedelic collage of samples and styles, plus the Long Island trio's low-key, clever rhymes and goofy humor, the album sounded like nothing else in hip-hop. Where most of their contemporaries drew directly from old-school rap, funk, or Public Enemy's dense sonic barrage, De La Soul were gentler and more eclectic, taking in not only funk and soul, but also pop, jazz, reggae, and psychedelia. Though their style initially earned both critical raves and strong sales, De La Soul found it hard to sustain their commercial momentum in the '90s as their alternative rap was sidetracked by the popularity of considerably harder-edged gangsta rap....

West Coast heavyweight Xzibit expanded his following with a series of increasingly superstar-laced albums beginning in the late '90s, ultimately aligning himself with Cali kingpin Dr. Dre at the decade's end. Years before, Xzibit began as a member of the Likwit Crew, a loose collective of West Coast rappers including tha Alkaholiks and King T. Compton's own the Game (aka Jayceon Taylor) issued his debut LP The Documentary in 2004 through Aftermath/G Unit/Universal. RIO - No próximo dia 8, o presidente reeleito Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva vai condecorar 46 personalidades com a Ordem do Mérito Cultural. Entre os nomes escolhidos, está o da banda de hip-hop paulistana Racionais MC’s, um dos mais populares grupos de periferia de São Paulo, e cujos integrantes apoiaram a candidatura Lula.

Os raivosos Racionais agora são Cavaleiros do Mérito Cultural. Os manos conseguiram façanhas em sua carreira, e conseguem vender milhões de discos sem assinar contratos com grandes gravadoras e dependendo apenas de um esquema modesto de distribuição. Tornaram a musica Fim de Semana no Parque um dos hinos modernos da cidade de São Paulo, assim como Adoniram fizera no passado com Trem das Onze e Ronda.

A lista dos condecorados desse ano, a 12.ª da história, saiu no Diário Oficial da União de sexta-feira, em decreto do presidente Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

A solenidade de entrega acontecerá às 16h, no Palácio do Planalto, em Brasília. Dos 46 contemplados, 41 estarão presentes, segundo o Ministério da Cultura (MinC). Receberão as insígnias das mãos de Lula e de Gilberto Gil, ministro da Cultura, 30 personalidades - das quais 8 serão homenageadas in memoriam, além de 11 grupos e instituições.

Entre os homenageados, estão ainda José Mindlin, Sábato Magaldi, Amir Haddad, Lauro César Muniz, Tomie Ohtake, Mário Cravo Neto, Mestres Eugênio e Verequete, Laura Cardoso, Lygia Martins Costa, Vladimir Carvalho, Fernando Birri e o acordeonista Sivuca.

Essa trilha by Isaac hayes eu não conhecia foi uma surpresa.destaque pra"Hung Up On My Baby" sampleada por gabriel o Pensador e não dado os créditos como de costume.

Esse disco é uma raridade eu paguei uma pequena fortuna nele,mardito "Tony Hit´s", destaque pra" Melô da Cuica" e" Periscópio" agora na moral o disco é todo bom.

Azymuth is an electrified trio from Brazil that calls its music samba doido, which means "crazy samba." The actual sounds, though, are not so crazy: an intelligent, high-voltage blend of Brazilian rhythms, jazz, and funk with occasional acoustic episodes that gained a sizable following in the 1980s. The members of the group included José Roberto Bertrami (born February 21, 1946, in Tatui, Brazil) on acoustic piano and keyboards, Alex Malheiros (born August 19, 1946, in Niteroi, Brazil) on bass, and Ivan Conti (born August 16, 1946, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) on drums.
