Jazz & Blues : Amy Winehouse - Back To Black (2006)
Artist: Amy Winehouse
Title Of Album: Back To Black
Year Of Release: Nov 28, 2006
Label: Universal Records
Genre: Jazz / Soul
Format: MP3
Quality: 192 kbps I 44.1 Khz I Stereo
Total Time: 34 min 54 sec
Total Size: 82.5 mb
It doesn't take much listening to Amy Winehouse's 1960s pop period piece to realize that this is a tribute with an edge--nice girls back then didn't sing about boozing and rehab. Since her 2003 debut album, FRANK, Winehouse has been a frequent presence on the gossip pages of the U.K. tabloids, and her songwriting here candidly reflects her experiences with drinking, sex, and drugs.
BACK TO BLACK's production is an artful blend of sophisticated '60s R&B and 21st-century stylistic poaching, with "Tears Dry on Their Own" incorporating elements of Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell's "Ain't No Mountain High Enough," and Winehouse sounding like Billie Holiday fronting a reggae band on the old-fashioned cheating song "Just Friends." Densely packed with musical history and often conjuring a dark, Portishead-esque atmosphere, BACK TO BLACK is a sumptuous-sounding collection freighted with blunt confessionals of a lush life.

Incognito - Tales From The Beach 2008
Artist: Incognito Title Of Album: Tales From The Beach Year Of Release: May-05-2008 Label: Edel Records Genre: Acid Jazz, Soul Jazz, Nu jazz, Smooth WebSite: incognito.org.uk It was as a child listening to local musicians on the beach in his native Mauritius that Bluey decided music was the life for him. He listened to folkloric stories put to a beat as the people danced. And it is to the beaches of Bali and Italy that he went for inspiration for the new Incognito album Tales From The Beach. The album was recorded in Italy, Germany, Indonesia and London, and was mixed in Jakarta. This is the 13th studio album from Incognito, probably the most multi-cultural band in the UK, and certainly one of the hardest working. In the past 18 months alone they have performed in more than 25 countries. Tales From The Beach is an album of 15 refreshing and uplifting songs, each beautifully crafted. Maysa Leak again guests on vocals and sings I’ve Been Waiting, a throwback to the golden era of Quincy Jones and Michael Jackson. Tony Momrelle turns in a stunning vocal on When The Sun Comes Down. The band hit the dancefloor on many of the tracks, including Step Aside, a four to the floor stomper with vocals by Joy Rose, and N.O.T., an acid jazz-flavoured tracks with horns reminiscent of the Average White Band. Release date for this stunning new album is May 5. Tracklisting ---------------- 01. Step Aside 05:59 02. I've Been Waiting 04:29 03. When The Sun Comes Down 04:47 04. Jamiroquai - Discografia

Gilles P Digs America, and we dig him plenty too -- so the feeling is mutual! This time around, Mr P's shown us again that he still has an amazing talent for picking up a groove -- as most of the tracks on this set were shopped by Peterson in the year or so before the compilation -- proving that there's still plenty of great grooves in the record racks, as long as you've got your eyes and ears open! The vibe here is great -- very jazzy, very deep -- and a reminder that although he's a key tastemaker for contemporary grooves, Gilles can still wend his way through older jazz, soul, and vocal tracks better than anyone else. Many of the tracks are of west coast origin, and like the first volume, this set's supported by great notes, and even a few great photos of key Bay Area record stores too. Titles include "Going To California" by Irene Kral, "Call To Worship" by Bethlehem Progressive Ensemble, "You Know Baby" by Mary Lou Williams with Leon Thomas, "Make Love To Me" by Carrie Cleveland, "Why Can't There Be Love" by Dee Edwards, "Intergalactic Love Song" by The Diddys, "Movin On" by Ray Camacho, "Sadness In My Samba" by Steve Parks, "In Every Way" by Reverie, "Boys With Toys" by Gap Mangione, "My Favorite Things" by Al Jarreau, "The Pussy's In The Well" by Mary Lou Williams, "Never In My Life" by The Love Affair, "Brougham" by Musicians For The Summer Program, and the LP debut of "The Old One Two" by Ramp.

After the hugely successful and critically acclaimed first release in the ‘Vintage Grooves’ series ‘Old School Hip Hop’, Seamless Recordings is proud to present ‘Funk Volume 1’, the second release in the series which once again is lovingly selected by our resident superstar compiler and DJ Ian Dewhirst.
--
Continuing with the same ethos set with the first release there are absolutely no filler tracks, only 12” full version original mixes have been used and extensive track by track sleevenotes are included. For this first volume of ‘Vintage Grooves Funk’ Ian delves deep into the musical vaults to present 28 chunks of funk cuts from the 70s.
--
The tracklisting is a veritable who’s who of black music and includes one of the best and most successful exponents of 70’s Funk: Earth, Wind & Fire with their 1975 number one R&B hit “Shining Star”, as well as Bill Withers, with his much respected follow up to ‘Aint No Sunshine’ titled ‘Grandma’s Hands’, and Sly and the Family Stone with their number 1 hit ‘Family Affair’. No funk album could be complete without the classic ‘Pick up the pieces’ by Scottish funkateers The Average White Band, another US number one, ‘Play that funky music’ by one hit wonder Wild Cherry and ‘Lady Marmalade’ a number one hit when first released in it’s original version by Labelle included here, and an even bigger smash some 26 years later when it was recorded by Christina Aguilera, L’il Kim, Mya and Pink for the Moulin Rouge film soundtrack. And how can we forget Fatback Band, The Isley Brothers, The O’Jays and Cheryl Lynn, all included in Vintage Grooves Funk Volume 1. Welcome home, and happy listening!

The New Mastersounds - Live At La Cova (2006)
This is the fourth album from UK favorites The New Mastersounds. On the heels of their acclaimed 3rd studio album This Is What We Do and several tours of the US and Europe in 2005, the band was convinced a live offering was due. Recorded on multi-track in the Summer of 2005 in Menorca, Spain inside the intimate La Cova, a club situated inside a cave overlooking the Mediterranean, the band serves up a heavy dose of original funk and soul jazz numbers from each of their prior albums as well as some of the band’s favorite cover tunes, including Grant Green's "Jan Jan," the Meter's "Funky Miracle," and other jazz funk classics like "Spooky," "FireEater," and "Duffin' 'Round" with plenty of Hammond B3 grooves. Led by guitar virtuoso Eddie Roberts, this telepathically tight quintet stretches out plenty. Featuring frequent guest Sam Bell on percussion, the album highlights their broad spectrum of pure vintage sounds and the energy they bring to their live shows, no matter what corner of the globe their danceable grooves take them. Sure to be one of the best live albums you'll hear this year! ‘Live at La Cova’ will be a surefire hit with all their fans past and present - an impressive list that includes Keb Darge, Kenny Dope, Mr Scruff, Gilles Peterson, Norman Jay, DJ Shadow, Snowboy, Quantic, Richard Searling and many more groove-lovers across the globe.

Jill Scott - Collaborations (2007)
Though a critic's darling and a favorite of those in the musical know, Jill Scott never enjoyed the commercial success she deserved during her first several years in the game. In 2007, that looked to be changing, with the release of her third full-length and a stellar set of collaborations.
Scott's talents are enough to ensure her status several times over, but those needing extra convincing need only glance at the heavyweight guest list. The Isley Brothers, Common, Al Jarreau, Mos Def, Chris Botti, George Benson, Sergio Mendes, and Will. I. Am. are only some of Scott's partners on this outing. The leaps from hip-hop to neo-soul to jazz to pop might threaten stylistic whiplash, but it is a testament to Scott's skill as an artist that the album plays like a singular, very enjoyable entity.
