On the occasion of the 50th birthday of the independence of the main part of the African countries, the box " Free Africa " pays tribute to the music of this continent across a selection of 50 essential and necessary tracks. This anthology gathers artists, mythical ( Manu Dibango, Salif Keita, Miriam Makeba, Ali Farka Touré), famous (Tinder and Mariam, Mory Kanté, Angelica Kidjo, Wassis Diop, Tiken Jah Fakoli, Alpha Blondy, Star of Dakar, The Ambassadors, Boubacar Traoré) and others less known or forgotten who participated in the wealth of the history of Africain music.
This box contains the nicest music of the four corners of Africa (Nigeria, Congo, Cameroon, Mali, Benin, Senegal, Togo, Ivory Coast, Guinea, Burkina Faso, Gambia). This selection stretches in the Portuguese-speaking countries (Angola, Cape Verde islands) become independent in 1975, as well as in Ethiopia, country in atypical history. These countries were inserted into this box owing to the quality of their artists and their music (Césaria Evora, Bonga, Mulatu Astatké, Mahmoud Ahmed).
50 tracks presenting the african history and culture since independence. From rumba to the mandingue music, from the afro beat to the goumbé, withtout missing blues, jazz and rock, "Free Africa" goes around skyline of music from the sixties to nowadays. With a complete booklet containing notes on every artist, as well as a review on accession of the independence of these countries, this project has the ambition to tell the most important period of Africain history. - Clique Aqui: Intermezzo Media is proud to present for the first time an important missing piece of the vast discography ofEnnio Morricone: FRAULEIN DOKTOR, the Original and Complete Soundtrack Album, Limited 1500 Edition. The 1968 movie is about World War I, and directed by Alberto Lattuada, starring Suzy Kendall, KennethMore, Capucine, James Booth and Giancarlo Giannini. Since the very day of its release FRAULEIN DOKTOR was quite unfortunate. It had problems with the censorship because of the animal abuse scenes, the lesbian love, and the battle scenes harshness, almosthorror. This movie was never released on VHS or DVD, and so it is virtually unobtainable. Morricone wrote an impressively masterpiece of extraordinary musical and emotional value to accompany the Ypres Battle. The listening of this cue while watching the film scene it creates the real violence and terror climate, comparable only to that created by the music written by Prokofiev for the Battle on the Ice scene in the Alexander Nevsky film of Eisenstein. Maybe to balance that disturbing violent climate, Morricone wrote one of his most beautiful and poignant themes of love, which perfectly fits the complex and troubled personality of Fraulein Doktor. This CD album cannot be missed. Because it shows the multifaceted mastery of Maestro Morricone. De-Luxe booklet with 16 pages of rare archive photos and memorabilia. Orchestra conducted by: Bruno Nicolai

Artist:Cal Tjader Title Of Album:Live At The Funky Quarters Year Of Release: 1972 Genre: Jazz Quality: 320 kbps Total Time: 45:01 Total Size: 118 mb
A 1972 live set, Live at the Funky Quarters is every bit of its time: Cal Tjader's vibraphone is supported by Al Zulaica's electric piano and John Heard's Jaco Pastorious-style bass-as-lead-instrument, giving the whole thing a fusiony sheen that will be the dealbreaker for many listeners. Those not constitutionally averse to early-'70s fusion will find much to enjoy here, however, as Tjader plays with his usual grace and fluidity, and Zulaica's electric piano solos are refreshingly free of Chick Corea-style overplaying. The jazz-rock-inflected reworkings of earlier Tjader favorites like "Manteca" and "Soul Sauce III" -- which features an amazing extended percussion breakdown section buoyed by Heard's rubbery bassline -- work surprisingly well, and newer material like "Philly Mambo" and the delicate allad "Mother and Child" is well-suited to the players' strengths. Most of this album can be found on the CD two-fer Descarga, but that release deletes a funky version of Tjader's tune "Theme," so true fans will want to search for the original vinyl.

"Music of My Mind" is widely hailed as Stevie Wonder's artistic rebirth, the beginning of his "classic period." The 1972 release is a breathtaking exploration of soul, sound and the sonic possibilities of the recording studio, shaped as much by his roots in R&B as it is by his interest in electronic instrumentation. Compared to his earlier work, this music feels worlds away, the texture of the album was different from anything he had released. Performing almost entirely solo, Stevie ties overdubs of keyboards, drums, harmonica as well as his mastery of traditional song structure and his immense musical personality into well-woven audio tapestries. Standout tracks include "Superwoman (Where Were You When I Needed You)," "Happier Than The Morning Sun," "Keep On Running" and "I Love Every Little Thing About You." He makes a small job of transposing the passion of soul music into a synthesized world. At this point, people realized that Wonder was no longer suggesting brilliance. He had found it.

One of the coolest Christmas compilations you could ever hope to own – but you probably guessed that already, from the cover image that pays tribute to a classic set from James Brown! The JB image is certainly well placed – as most of the tracks here are deeply funky Holiday tunes – the kind of gritty seasonal ditties that were only ever issued as funky 45s back in the day – and most really only on a local level, too! Strut's really outdone themselves with this excellent collection – as it features a fair bit of Christmas rarities we've never heard before, but which are totally wonderful – all-new tunes, not common Christmas cover versions – played and performed with a hell of a soulful feel throughout. Knock that ol' Bing Crosby record off the turntable, and give this one plenty of spins this December – and dammit, the music's so great, you may well find yourself playing the collection well into the New Year too!

The golden era of ‘60s and ‘70s soul music boasts a great tradition for Christmas songs and, following in the footsteps of classic Christmas albums from the Motown stable and James Brown, Strut enter the festive spirit this November with the first ever Yuletide compilation on the label, IN THE CHRISTMAS GROOVE, bringing together 12 rare soul, funk and blues cuts rediscovered from Christmases past. Featuring tracks often only ever released as obscure 45 B-sides, the compilation tracks one-off moments when the good groove met the jingle bells to devastating effect. Artists include bluesman Jimmy Reed, jamming hard on ‘Christmas Present Blues’ and Calypsonian Capt. Elmo McKenzie with a lilting Yuletide Caribbean ode on Barbados label Trex. UK-based session collective Zebra weigh in with a festive slice of gritty Afro-rock and kids choir Harlem Children’s Chorus’ paint a poignant picture of ‘Black Christmas’ in the ghetto. We also include some useful covers of Christmas favourites. Late, lamented New Orleans Godfather Eddie Bo produces Isaac Clarke on a solid version of ‘Santa Claus Is Coming To Town’ for his Seven B label and The Black On White Affair out of Seattle rock out on an amazing re-work of ‘Auld Lang Syne’. All in all, an essential diggers’ grab bag for the festive season and a refreshing alternative to the traditional Christmas fare. Early reaction from Lapland is encouraging: “Sinatra and Jim Reeves are certainly legends but the same songs each Christmas are driving me and Rudolph a bit potty, quite frankly,” explains Santa Claus. “This is the sh*t I want in my sleigh!”

Hardly the kind of funk you might find in the crates over here although most of these 70s Dutch gems have a strong American influence! Like the first volume, this set is a revelatory look at a scene we know hardly anything about a range of cool combos from The Netherlands who picked up US styles of funky jazz and soul, then put their own twist on it with a range of very cool grooves! Only a few of these records might have made it to our shores back in the day, so even if you've dug deep, you'll be hard-pressed to find most of these tracks in the original and like the first volume, this one features detailed notes on all the artists as well as a full bonus CD that features remixes by Kraak & Smaak, DJ Maestro, Pax & Pry, Funnysounds, and others.
Joey Negro Biog Joey Negro is the most well-known pseudonym of master British DJ/producer/remixer Dave Lee. Under a plethora of other monikers including Jakatta, Akabu, Doug Willis, Raven Maize, The Sunburst Band, Sessomatto, and Z Factor, Dave was one of the first artists to incorporate disco samples in house music when he began his production career in 1990. Indeed, he was in the studio making credible and outstanding British House music when many luminaries around him were still busy getting to grips with their decks. In 2010 little has changed and Dave is widely regarded as one of the most commercially successful and in-demand artists on the global scene.
A producer first and foremost, Dave uses his DJ’ing talents as a sound-bed for tweaking his musical creations to perfection. His work ethic is legendry, having been involved in well over 200 productions, countless albums and a healthy stack of hit singles. Through releasing tracks such as ‘Must Be The Music’, ‘Make A Move On Me’, ‘Can’t Get High Without You’ and Jakatta’s ‘American Dream’ and ‘My Vision’, Dave has established himself as a true professional who keeps getting better. Widely considered an expert in all things funk, soul and disco-related, Dave is also a helpful ‘consultant’ depended on by radio and TV producers world wide.
Born on the Isle of Wright, Dave grew up on the south coast of England during the late 70’s and early 80’s listening to local radio stations and the sounds of Earth Wind & Fire, Heatwave, Shalamar and The Jacksons. A lack of good quality music at the time encouraged Dave to seek inspiration in the record shops of London. This soon led to a job at London vinyl store Smithers & Leigh where he first heard the revered house classics ‘Jack Your Body’ and ‘I Can Feel It’, sounds that were major inspirations for him to produce his own records.
Following the closure of Smithers & Leigh, Dave joined Rough Trade Distribution where he was charged with setting up its dance music arm, Demix. It was here where Dave started working with the Rhythm King label, which had had a number of hits with acts like Bomb The Bass, S-Express, Cookie Crew and Beatmasters.
His experience in advising other labels led to Dave establishing his own imprint, Republic Records, in 1988. Now defunct, Republic is today remembered as the UK’s first soulful house label releasing classics such as Phase II “Reachin” and Turntable Orchestra “You’re Gonna Miss Me”. This was also home the first Dave Lee production, M.D.E.M.M.'s ‘Get Busy’, which reached 88 in the UK charts and 18 in the club charts. His most successful work during this time, according to Dave himself, was ‘Forever Together’, released under his Raven Maize alter ego. Dave created hype by licensing the song to NY label Quark and created a story of an ex-convict who played in a steel band in Disney Land, even using a computer-enhanced image of a friend sporting an afro as a press shot.
